Paper, An Historical Account of Its Making by Hand From the Earliest Times..., Oxford: Shakespeare Head Press, 1934. Large folio, No. 164 of an edition of 250, pp. xvi, 158, occasional tissue interleaving, brown cloth boards half-bound in blue morocco with gilt lettering to spine, gilt rules on front, collotype illustration, inscribed on the half-title page by Clapperton. Begins with the origin of paper in China and progresses around the world, predating the researches of Dard Hunter. Printed on handmade paper, this is a beautiful presentation befitting its subject. With two blank leaves that can be held up to light to display watermarks. Condition of this book: Bumped corners, wear at edges, else fine. Special Limited Edition, first issue in this format. Size: Large Folio (bigger than A3). Text body is clean, and free from previous owner annotation, underlining and highlighting. Binding is tight, covers and spine fully intact.
