About This Item

Shanghai: Tien Shi Chai, 1879. Soft cover. Very Good. A panorama of Peking during the celebrations of the 6oth Anniversary of Kang He's birthday. This panorama was originally created in 1721, and is reproduced here on silk with purple silk covers with gold text, by a lithographic technique. It is in very good condition, although the printers appear to have sacrificed the chinese characters in the binding process, the prints themselves are in excellent condition and render a fascinating view of Chinese life in the 18th Cent.; 32mo - over 4 - 5" tall Near Fine dc 1879
