New York: Harper & Brothers. Good with no dust jacket. 1855. First Edition. Hardcover. Original brown cloth stamped boards with spine imprint faded but still readable. Sunning of spine and edges, rubbed and bumped corners with spine ends worn off. Spine cocked. Light soil and adhesive marks on endpapers, foxing on pages, a few small tears. Ex-library with blind stamp on title page. Pages vii, [13] - 246, 5 plates including frontis, map and other illustrations in text. Robert Tomes traveled several times to Panama as the surgeon for a steamship company and provides details on the railroad and port towns in this travelogue. ; Steel engraving; 6 3/4" x 4 3/4"; 246 pp .
