About This Item
Pictorial Histories Missoula MT, 1997-01-01. First Edition. Hardcover. Near Fine/No Jacket-as issued. Hardcover with cover art by Bob Jenny and related ephemera First Edition 1997 Pictorial Histories 315 pages..Near Fine in illustrated color boards, no jacket - as issued..This is the scarce First Edition with cover art by Bob Jenny. All other copies and reprints with DJ's have art by Fred Wolfe..just a hint of shelf/edge wear to illustrated boards-corners sharp..no previous owner markings, no notes-all pages are bright, clean and crisp..It's always a pleasure to experience a trip back in time through the pages of a book, especially when it's well done. But that hardly even comes close to the praise that this book deserves. A labor of love that took years to compile has become THE masterpiece of this slice of Pan American aviation history.Hundreds of photographs of planes, people, and the collectable memorabilia from Pan Am's Clipper days are here. Each aircraft used in Pacific service is described -- there were only twelve. Three were Sikorsky S-42's, three were Martin M-130's, six were Boeing B-314's. Jon Krupnick has produced the bible of the Pan Am Pacific Flying Boat years. Lasting only ten years, Pan Am's Pacific flying boats really are the stuff of legend. Krupnick interviewed many of the original players - the men and women who made the "SKYWAY TO ASIA" a reality. It's all here. From the S.S North Haven crew and construction workers, to Pan Am Clippers, and finally the crews and service personnel. From 1935 until the end of the Pacific War in 1945, the clippers evoked myth and magic, as well as the most technologically advanced aircraft of the day..Seven packed chapters..Laid in is fold-out color illustration of a clipper in flight with B&W photos of clippers on the reverse..Highly Recommended..Very Scarce edition with cover art by Bob Jenny..ISBN-1575100274..Thanks for supporting a small family business..LOC SSM-13
