About This Item
Iowa City: The State Historical Society of Iowa, 1946. Staple-bound. Very Good. Clean pages; no owners' marks; the soft cover shows a thin line of fading around the top edge and small edge chips at spine ends, otherwise excellent. 32pp. Articles include: "Iowa Schools in 1846" by Jacob A. Swisher, "The Era of Private Academies" by Forest C. Ensign, and "Taxes Underwrite Education" by Erma B. Plaehn. We beg State lawmakers to review this issue, which explains the history of public schooling in Iowa - and details why State funding for rural, public schools saves tax dollars and builds Iowa's economy, which the old private school system in 19th century Iowa demonstrably failed to do.
