About This Item
London: Andre Deutsch, 1995. First edition. Hardcover. Fine copy/fine. 8vo. Pictorial boards. Pp. viii, 440. Illustrated. Index. This is a most fascinating memoir. Here is some of his observations about President John F. Kennedy: "It is always a delicate matter when a friend or acquaintance becomes president. Ease must be maintained, yet one may not call him by his first name or walk ahead of him into a room.…Jack was overconscious of his relative youth.…Certainly, to me, seven years younger, Jack seemed—and indeed was—mildly decrepit. He moved stiffly when he did not limp painfully from a bad back: war wound was the official line; touch football, the reality."
