About This Item
New York: Richard R. Smith, 1939. Hardcover. viii, 217p., first edition, very good condition in the original cloth binding, many unopened pages, number in grease pencil on free front endpaper. The retired pastor of the Abyssinian Baptist Church, succeeded by his son Adam Clayton Powell, Jr., details his trip to the middle east in the book's first five chapters,, and discusses the types of ministers - fundamentalist, modernists and progressives - and the importance of the social gospel which he himself espouses.
