About This Item

London/Cleveland: Royal Academy of Arts/Cleveland Museum of Art, 2015. Book. Fine. Soft cover. 4to - over 9¾ - 12" tall. Softcover. Condition: Fine, with just the faintest hint of shelfwear to covers. Binding sound, no inscriptions. 328pp. Many colour illustrations. This catalogue was produced to accompany the exhibition entitled "Painting the Modern Garden: Monet to Matisse" organised jointly by the Cleveland Museum of Art and the Royal Academy of Arts, and held at the Cleveland Museum of Art from 11 October 2015 to 5 January 2016 before touring to the Royal Academy of Arts, London from 30 January to 20 April 2016. The exhibition explored the close, almost symbiotic relationship that developed between artists and gardens during the latter half of the 19th century, focusing on Monet, a great horticulturist as well as a great artist, focusing on the creation of his garden at Giverny. The catalogue is illustrated with masterpieces by Monet and his fellow Impressionists, as well as later painters such as Bonnard, Sargent, Klee, Kandinsky and Matisse..
