Chicago Times correspondent Keith Wheeler (1911 - 1994) was dispatched with hours of notice to the Southwest Pacific after Pearl Harbor (Dec 7th, 1941). He spent December through May aboard cruiser, carrier, destroyer, in and out of engagements. Volume records those days of life among fighting men. Wheeler reports of the Far East through the occupation of Japan. He considered this account as "an amateur's report of an amateurs' War"; a documentation of a war correspondent's experiences In the Pacific of the first 14 months following Pearl Harbor. 383 pgs in 31 chapters, with a list of accompanied b/w archival photos.
