This collection of original material of Jerome Myers includes two photographs of Jerome Myers, taken by Leo Grubman, one taken in 1910 [when they shared an art gallery and studio] and signed by Leo Grubman, the other taken by Grubman circa 1932. There is a photograph of his wife Ethel (photographer not identified). After his success at the Armory Show in 1911 with the sale of his painting "The Mission Tent" he was able to move into a new studio at the new Carnegie Hall building. There are two warmly personal letters with biographical items of interest plus some artistic representation. The first letter is to his friend Leo Grubman, dated January 21, 1914, and discusses with pride his daughter Virginia's dance recital and his busy schedule. There is a second letter (lacking the first page) of one page signed "Jerome" and circa 1915 of his move to Carmel, New York where he bought 18 acres in a very rustic setting (where he has made a few nice ink sketches along the margins of the letter). Phillips, RA; Engraved title page (dated 1808) and 11 plates, all stating Ackermann as publisher, dated 1813 and engraved by Louis Schiavonetti, after Blake's designs. The pages have a little bumping to the edges but well away form the engraved area. Plates a little dusty and toned but the impressions are good. The original portfolio is brown Morocco grained cloth with elaborate blind tooled designs to both boards. Gilt lettering to the front board. Only one small piece of one silk tie remaining. Yellow coated endpapers. 3 small clippings from bookseller catalogues, each listing copies of the Blair/Blake book, tipped in to the front pastedown endpaper. A fine archive of three original drawings by the English "mouth artist" John Carter, two letters by his biographer, a copy of the revised edition of Carter's Memoir, and related materials. A fine collection of three original drawings by John Carter (31 July 1815 - 2 June 1850), an English mouth artist, together with a memoir and two autograph letters discussing Carter's work by William James Dampier, Carter's first biographer. The collection also includes a heliotype after a drawing by Carter as well as a list of subscribers to Dampier's memoir. The small collection was apparently presented by Dampier to one of his friends. Original drawings by carter are rare, as most "of his work, now widely dispersed and probably unrecognized, is of course only known from nineteenth century reproductions" (Trevor Disley) John Carter was born in Coggeshall, Essex, "of humble parents", as Dampier notes.
