He served time in Libby, Belle Isle, Andersonville and Florence prisons. At one point he escapes but is recaptured a few days later. "During the war of the rebellion Mr. Dufur of the First Vermont Cavairy was wounded and made a prisoner near Richmond, and his volume tells of his life as a captive in Andersonville and Florence. The story is a gruesome one and full of horrors.
