About This Item

New York: B. W. Dodge & Company, 1909. Extremely rare, out of print novel from the Fortean icon, Charles Fort. First and only printing of the original edition. Dk blue full-cloth boards, bright red-orange stamped cover design and titles, moderate shelf wear, rub. Cover depicts a bright silhouetted skyline w/horizontal and diagonal lines crossing it and crescent moon above. Pages very good; vintage name pencilled at front endp. Bind solid, straight; hinges intact. No wrapper as issued. A near very good example. A highly unusual tenement tale of slum life in New York city. Written in a dictum only a Fortean can appreciate. Though he wrote ten novels, this is the only novel by Charles Fort ever published. He is famous for his comprehensive research into anomolous and/or paranormal occurrences from around the globe. Fort spent his life collecting and collating thousands of accounts of strange, inexplicable events and phenomena. Charles Fort is famous for several titles documenting and attempting to explain this phenomena: "The Book of the Damned" (1919); "New Lands" (1923); "Lo!" (1931); and "Wild Talents" (1932). Fort began his work researching anomalous phenomena in the early 1900's, tirelessly cataloguing episodes of spontaneous combustion, spaceships, poltergeists, and other experiences and events that had been written off by science. A lasting influence on the evolution of science fiction as well as science itself, Fort remains one of the most fascinating and polarizing figures in all of Americana. The terms Fortean and Forteana are now used to characterize various such phenomena. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" Tall. 328 pages. Insured post.. First Edition. Hard Cover. Good. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" Tall.
