London: Macmillan, 1910. 256 pp, 10" H. Green cloth with gilt lettering on spine, gilt illustrations on spine/front board, top edge gilt.100 b&w illustrations throughout the text by Hugh Thomson and 16 colour plates by Alfred Rawlings tipped on heavy brown stock with caption-bearing tissue guards. All illustrations are present, but the tissue-guard for "The Dragon Inn, Three Mile Cross" is missing. A collection of literary sketches of rural life, based on Mary Mitford's experiences/observations in the hamlet of Three Mile Cross where she lived in the early 1800s. A large 'prize' inscription with two names and the date June 1916 on the free front endpaper, scattered browning and foxing on the endpapers, very light browning in the page margins, heavy browning to the fore-edge and to the bottom of the text block, shelf wear to the bottom of the text block, light to moderate edge wear to the boards, wrining and some tiny tear to the cloth at the top/bottom of the spine, green cloth has faded and browned at the board edges, spine colour has turned to brown, now protected in a stiff mylar sleeve.. Not Signed. Hard Cover. Good+/No Jacket. Illus. by Hugh Thomson & Alfred Rawlings..
