Philadelphia, PA: National Publishing Co., [1881]. Thick 8vo. 768 pp. Two steel-engraved frontisp. portraits, numerous woodcut-engraved plates. Contemporary full sheep binding, gilt ruling on spine, gilt & black morocco spine label, marbled endpapers (front joint starting, minor scuffing, edgewear, occasional light interior toning), still G copy. First edition of this excellent biography of one of Americas largely forgotten Presidents, former Civil War General -- assassinated only three months after his inauguration by a lone gunman. McCabe has included an extensive section on the circumstances and investigation of the assassination, as well as details about Charles Guiteau.
