About This Item

[1933ca. PLATINUM-PALLADIUM PHOTOGRAPH OTTO KAHN WITH BLANK & STOLLER STUDIOS SIGNATURE], BLANK & STOLLER, NY, PLATINUM-PALLADIUM PRINT/PHOTOGRAPH of the famed financier Otto Kahn, pencil signed "Blank + Stoller, NY", in pencil at lower left corner, number "47" in pencil below this, 10-1/4" high x 7-3/4" across to the plate marks on 13-1/2" x 10-1/2" cotton rag photographic paper…limited edition photograph, possibly one-of-a-kind or only known copy that was part of a photo album of more than 25 similar high-quality portrait photographs of Kahn taken and signed by leading photography studios in New York City and elsewhere around the US. between the mid 1920s and 1933, the year before Kahn died…the album was overseen by Kahn's wife Addie…the photographs were not intended for public distribution, and no duplicates of any have been found in online research…considering Kahn's support of the arts and his great wealth, he presumably commissioned the high-quality platinum and palladium photographs as encouragement and recognition for the studios and also to publicize his support of the developing field of photography as an art form; NOTES: OTTO KAHN, 1867-1934, German-born American investment banker, collector, philanthropist, and patron of the arts…well known figure of the period, appearing on the cover of Time Magazine…a great patron of the arts; BLANK & STOLLER STUDIO, New York City photography studio active in the 1920s-60s; PROVENANCE: acquired at a Fairfield County estate sale of descendants of Otto Kahn /// CONDITION: fine, remains of paper the photo was at one time affixed to in an album at corners on back keywords: art photograph, platinum print portrait, business celebrity portrait, limited edition photograph
