About This Item
(The Foundations of Modern Architecture. Experimental Research Works) Quarto 28x22 cm., wrappers, 123 (4) pp., illustrated throughout with five color plates. Iakov Chernikhov (1889-1951) was a visionary designer, and produced the most original design work in the USSR. He taught widely throughout his career and produced an enormous amount of work in the studio, none of which was built. The present work lays the foundations for what would come to fruition in 101 Architectural Fantasies in 1933. However, it drew fierce criticism and Chernikhov was labeled a Formalist. Remarkably inventive, he only acknowledged Suprematism as an affinity to his futuristic work which looks ahead even today.
