About This Item

London: Country Life Limited, 1952 . First edition. Cloth. Very Good. 14" by 10.5". Kathleen Hale. A charming first edition telling the tale of Orlando, the Marmalade Cat, at the seaside, written and illustrated by Kathleen Hale. First edition, in the publisher's original quarter cloth and pictorial boards. Written by Kathleen Hale, a British artist, children's author and illustrator who was best known for her series on The Marmalade Cat, Orlando. Hale created this series as entertainment for her children at bedtime. Orlando (The Marmalade Cat) is the lovable protagonist in this charming series. This particular story surrounds Orlando's adventures upon taking a seaside holiday with his wife Grace and their three kittens, Pansy, Blanche and Tinkle. With beautiful, colourful illustrations throughout, by the author. In the publisher's original quarter cloth and pictorial boards. Externally, generally smart, with slight rubbing to the extremities. Light bumping to the head and tail of the spine and the odd mark to boards. Hinges slightly strained but holding firm. Endpapers loosening slightly, with the odd mark. Rear endpaper has been cut to the bottom corner. Lacking the original dust wrapper. Internally, generally firmly bound. Pages bright and clean, with a touch of spotting to the first and last pages. Very Good
