Rome: Typis Lazzarinii Typographi Cameralis, 1797. First Edition. Hardcover (Quarter Leather). Very Good Condition. Early half leather over marbled boards, corners worn, binding sound. Scattered minor browning and foxing - minor worming in the outer margins towards the beginning and through much of the volume in the inner margin, just touching some letters in the inner margin in spots. Worming appears again towards the end, usually confined to the margins, but heavy at the very end and touching some text (though largely in the index). Two small wormholes and slight foxing to most of the folding plates - still about very good and a crisp copy. VIII, 655, (1) pp with 8 folding plates bound at the end. Zoega was a Danish numismatist and archaeologist. De Origine et Usu Obeliscorum is both a survey of the current state of Egyptology as well as an original work of scholarship of the art, history and language of ancient Egypt made possible by his access to Stefano Borgia's collection of manuscripts and objects - Zoega's speculation that hieroglyphics contain phonetic elements was essential to their decipherment. Size: Folio. Quantity Available: 1. Shipped Weight: 2-3 kilos. Category: Archaeology; Antiquarian & Rare. Inventory No: 046669.
