Garden City, NY: Blue Ribbon Books, 1945. First Edition. Hardcover. Very Good/Very Good. 6 1/4 x 9 3/8 Inches. First printing of this collection of comics featuring "GI Joe", originally issued in YANK and The Stars and Stripes newspapers during WWII. Comics featuring the original character "Private Breger" began running in The Saturday Evening Post in 1941. In 1942, Breger was assigned by the authorities at YANK magazine to adapt his character for publication in YANK for the soldiers during the war effort. "GI Joe", the twin of "Private Breger", was born in 1942 with the first issue of YANK. The name GI JOE is now a household name due to the fame of the series and the toy line that came a bit later. Original brown cloth boards with title and GI JOE character stamped in black on front cover. Rubbing to hinges. DJ a bit sunned at spine. Light wear to DJ edges and folds. Hugh Hefner personal bookplate to front pastedown. Accompanied by letter of authentication from the Hefner estate.
