About This Item

Held in original unclipped dustwrapper. 'The Ordeal of Gilbert Pinfold' is a fictionalised autobiographical account of a period of hallucinations the author experienced due to bromide intoxication. He experienced this in the early months of 1954. Waugh often referred to the period of the time reflected in this work as his 'late lunacy.' Waugh was advised to write this book by the then head of psychiatric department at St Bartholomew's hospital who interpreted the voices he heard as hallucinations due to his poisoning. In original publisher's cloth with original unclipped dustwrapper. Externally, generally smart. Some bumping to the extremities and to the head and tail of spine. Gilt stamping to spine is rubbed and fading. Dustwrapper is chipped to the head of spine. Light rubbing to the joints and tail of spine. Further patches of light rubbing to the extremities. A few light spots both externally and internally to wrap. Internally, firmly bound. A few light spots to the foredge. The odd spots to pages. Very Good Indeed
