Original full leather binding with gilt decoration of 'Orchid' to upper board, gilt spine labels. One of a limited edition of 150 copies (not numbered). Previous owner's bookplate front endpaper, otherwise neaer fine condition in near-fine original box. Limited edition bound in full leather. W.H. Nicholls was an amateur botanist and an authority on Australian orchids. He was an accomplished watercolourist and photographer, and collected and named a number of new varieties of orchids. "Orchids of Australia" "remains the definitive work on the orchid flora of the continent" (Australian Dictionary of Biography). Over 400 species illustrated along with the information required for identification. Limited Ed.. Leather.
