About This Item

London: Printed for Thomas Ward, 1827. 4 vols., 12mo, pp. iv, 275, [1], 4 (ads); vi, [iii], 249, [1]; iv, 283, [1]; iv, 282. Partially unopened in original green cloth, printed paper labels to spines. A touch of spotting, a little marginal worming to first leaves of vol. 4 and last leaves of vol. 2, small edge tear to 1 leaf in vol. 3 touching running-title. Spines sunned, labels a little rubbed and chipped, spine-ends bumped. Publisher’s advertisement labels to pastedowns, bookseller’s ticket of William Wilson of Edinburgh to pastedown of vol. 1. A neat set of P. Austin Nuttall’s revision of John Stirling’s 1751 edition of Horace in the publisher’s binding. Unusually, this copy contains ads for itself to the pastedowns, advising that vols. 1, 3 and 4 can be had separate at 3s. a volume; those in vols. 2-4 have a typographical error corrected in ink. Library Hub records 6 holdings of this set, at Trinity College Dublin, Bl, NLS, NLW, Cambridge and St. Andrews.
