(Cape Town: Nasionale Pers, 1943). 8vo; original oatmeal cloth, lettered in green on spine, and blocked in green and brown to upper cover; pp. (iv) + 172: plates. Corners turned; code penned at tail of spine; label remnants, code and stamp to front endpaper, stamp also to title page; lower hinge starting; light browning; occasional fox spot. Good. Afrikaans text. (Nienaber I, p. 302) Gustav Schoeman Preller, the well-known South African historian, was born in 1875, and went to school at Standerton. He served in the State Artillery in the South African War, 1899-1902, and took part in major Natal battles of the war. Four months before the end of the war in 1902, he was taken prisoner near Ermelo and taken prisoner to India. .
