About This Item
Grand Rapids, MI: Zondervan Publishing Company, 1993. First edition. First printing [stated]. Hardcover. Very good/very good. 280, [8] pages. Maps. Illustrations (color). Glossary. Index. Oliver Laurence North (born October 7, 1943) is an American political commentator, television host, military historian, author, and retired United States Marine Corps lieutenant colonel. A distinguished veteran of the Vietnam War, North was a National Security Council staff member during the Iran-Contra affair. It involved the illegal sale of weapons to Iran to encourage the release of American hostages then held in Lebanon. North formulated the second part of the plan, which was to divert proceeds from the arms sales to support the Contra rebel groups in Nicaragua, which had been specifically prohibited under the Boland Amendment. North was granted limited immunity from prosecution in exchange for testifying before Congress about the scheme. North hosted a talk show on Radio America from 1995 to 2003, and hosted War Stories with Oliver North on Fox News from 2001 to 2016. A first-person account of Oliver North's 1993 return to Vietnam. North explores the possibilities--and a legacy of responsibility--involved in the relationship between the US and Vietnam in the future. The author of Under Fire provides a poignant account of a return trip to Vietnam, his struggle to come to terms with his memories of the Vietnam War, and his view of the lessons America should have learned from the conflict. Controversial Vietnam war hero and author of Under Fire, Oliver North returns to Vietnam in an attempt to resolve his own sense of conflict about the war. North's deeply moving narrative chronicles an unforgettable journey to learn if it's possible for something good to come from a nation's epic tragedy.
