About This Item

Shrewsbury: Airlife, 1990. 175 pp, large 8vo (9 3/4"H). B&w photographs, cutaway, maps. "This the fascinating story of the discovery and subsequent unearthing of a Second World War Hurricane fighter aircraft. The book has two main parts. The first covers the author's introduction as a young schoolboy to a small piece of wreckage in the Essex coastal marshes. His early inquisitiveness leads to identification of the aircraft type and several years later to a recovery operation which retrieves the substanial remains from their muddy resting place. After a period of further investigation into the remains' identity, together with some initial preservation work, the aircraft is finally put on display at the Royal Air Force Museum, Hendon. The second part of the book attempts to recreate the sequence of events during the raid which led to the aircraft's loss." Slight cigarette odor, very small bump at top of rear hinge. Dust jacket has light edge wear at top of rear panel, light wrinkling at top of rear hinge, minor browning on inside edges, minor rubbing. . First Edition. Hard Cover. Very Good/Very Good.
