About This Item

London, UK: Futura Publications/Macdonald & Co Publishers Ltd, 1984. Paperback. Very Good/No Jacket. 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall. A Mediaeval Whodunnit. Mass Market Paperback in Very Good Condition. Pages toned, completely clean. First two endpapers partially loose from binding. A very nice bright, colorful, clean, unmarked cover; solid and square binding. The Second Chronicle of Brother Cadfael, of the Benedictine Abbey of Saint Peter and Saint Paul, of Shrewsbury. Brother Cadfael's life in the monastery is not as quiet as he may have expected. In the twelfth-century Brother Cadfael settled down to a quiet life in charge of the herbarium at the Benedictine Abbey--at age 60 or so--after a life of adventure, including 15 years on the Crusades, a captain of a fishing boat, and a life that included women. In 1038, fighting engulfs Shrewsbury as King Stephen battles for the throne of England. Brother Cadfael is called upon to administer rites for some hanged prisoners--94, he is told, but he counts 95 and is once again on the trail of a murderer. 192 pages. 12mo. First published in 1979. This is a 1986 reprint of the 1984 edition. Futura Publications/Macdonald & Co Publishers Ltd, London, UK.

Synopsis

One Corpse Too Many is a medieval mystery novel set in the summer of 1138 by Ellis Peters, first published in 1979. It was adapted for television in 1994 by Central for ITV. Although it was the first novel in the Brother Cadfael series to be written, it was the second to be published, as the events of A Morbid Taste for Bones take place first, chronologically.
