About This Item

New York, NY E.P. Dutton, 1928. Hardcover First Edition USA (1928); the DJ at least is a later printing, the rear panel touting the fact that the author was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1934. There is also no date on the title page; just on the copyright page. Through 1928, Dutton denoted first editions by the same date on the copyright and title pages, with of course no subsequent printings noted. No price on the unclipped DJ. Very Good in Good DJ: The book shows light wear to the extremities; a few faint spot of soil to the lower backstrip and along the outside edge of the rear panel; foxing to the outside edges of the text block; a former owner's name in pink pencil at the front paste-down endpaper; the binding is square and secure. Free of creased or dog-eared pages in the text.. Free of underlining, hi-lighting, notations, or marginalia. A handsome copy, structurally sound and tightly bound copy, showing mild wear and several cosmetic imperfections. The DJ shows a 2" x 1/2" tear at the bottom of the front hinge; some soil spotting along the outside edge of the front panel; else only mild rubbing and faint soiling to the rose-toned background field; a hint of sunning to the background field of the backstrip (the titles thereon remain bold and clearly legible); unclipped; mylar-protected. NOT a Remainder, Book-Club, or Ex-Library. 8vo. (7.75 x 5.25 x 1.15 inches). 230 pages. Edited by by Arthur Livingston. Translations by Elisabeth Abbott, Arthur Livingston and Blance Valentine Mitchell. Language: English. Weight: 13.2 ounces. Yellow cloth over boards with red lettering at the backstrip. F-709.
