New York: Sparrow Press, 1955.. Small octavo. Pictorial wrapper and frontis after a drawing by Michael Lekakis. White portions of wrapper slightly darkened, but very good. First edition of the poet's third book, presumably the ordinary unnumbered issue. One of 225 copies from a total edition of two hundred and fifty copies printed at the Divers Press, Mallorca. Rather than being numbered and signed (as were the first twenty- five copies), this copy bears the author's signed, early inscription on the colophon: "for Seamus over & below all numbers."

Limited to only 22 copies, 109pp., illustrated, folder contains a typed manuscript from page 34 of Updike's play and is signed. The Texas Arts Journal is published only four times a year with contributor's such as William Saroyan, John Updike, Morse Peckham, George Garrett, James Purdy and Glyn Jones. Fine and housed in a custom slipcase.

The original dust jacket has loss upper front edge, 3cm tear upper rear, flecked spine ends. Each plate with the title printed below the border. 95 line illustrations throughout, some full page. Previous owners neat name on front blank endpaper otherwise a fine copy in original burgundy cloth with gilt illustrations and lettering to front board and spine. Front board with quadruple ruled black borders, spine ruled in gilt. In the scarce original publshers dustwrapper with colour illustration mounted onto the front panel, below black lettering and four line border. Flaps and other panels lettered in black. Original printed price (15/-) on spine has been blacked out neatly. Aside from a couple of tiny chips to the wrapper this is a beautiful fine example of this well produced edition.
