New York: Pantheon Books, 1992. First edition. Hardcover. Fine/fine. A Fine copy of Mamet's two-character play, in a Fine dust jacket, SIGNED BY DAVID MAMET. The play presents a power struggle between a university professor and a female student who ruins his chances of tenure by accusing him of sexual exploitation. The title of the play is taken from a Norwegian folk song envisioning an escapist utopia and critiquing Ole Bull's vision of a perfect society. (Bull was a Norwegian violinist who had great success with his performances in the United States and then founded a community in Pennsylvania which he called "New Norway". One of New Norway's constituent communities was named "Oleana" (after his mother and himself) and is now known as "Oleona".) Mamet's often performed play formed the basis of the 1994 film written and directed by Mamet and starring William Macy and Debra Eisenstadt. This is a beautiful copy of Mamet's play which is quite difficult to find signed. A beautiful copy, SIGNED BY DAVID MAMET.
