The text is illustrated with copious colour and black-and-white photographs, colour and black-and-white illustrations and maps. Brown faux leather ornately decorated covers with a picture of ' The Cowboy' painted by Frederic Remington, which has been pasted on post reduction. Gilt titles to the backstrip along with four raised bands to the top edge and lower edge of the backstrip. the book shows no signs of damage. A history of the American cowboy, from the earliest cowboy, the Californian vaquero, up to the large cattle barons and their large workfoprce of ranch hands/cowboys. Part of The Old West series.
