Paris: Charpentier, 1879. A large, heavy volume in a fine binding. The works of Musset, French dramatist, poet and novelist. Frontispiece portrait and engraved plates throughout. 735 pp., + 55 pp., of posthumous works and letters. Text is in French and printed in double columns. Quarto, 11.5 by 8.25 inches. Morocco leather (spine and corners) and decorative marbled boards. Gilt lettering and spine decoration. Gilt page edges. Silk moire endpapers. About VG with moderate external wear and rubbing. Sound joints and inner hinges. Moderate foxing of the text pages. Provenance: 1929 ownership signature on the half-title of author and educator Leon Verriest (1886-1953.) He was born in Belgium, held as a prisoner in Germany during World War I, and later taught French literature at Dartmouth College in New Hampshire.
