First edition. 2 volumes in 1. 8vo.. pp. (iv), xxx, 161, (i), 38, (vi) Index. 1 engraved plate; (ii), xix, (i), 208. Contemporary speckled calf, spine gilt, rebacked, old spine relaid, new label, corners repaired, new end-papers, a very good copy. *GARRISON-MORTON #1675, this edition - a third, posthumous, volume was issued in 1770. Huxham took daily daily weather readings and correlated them with prevailing disease mortality in an effort to prove a link between these phenomena. His tract on Devonshire Colic [GM#2093], first published in 1739, is added to the first volume above. He gave a vivid account of the disorder but ascribed it erroneously to the tartar extracted from apples during the cider-making process. It was shown by Sir George Baker in 1767 that the culprit was the lead used to line cider presses in Devon.
