Boston: Houghton Mifflin Company, 1941. First Edition. Near Fine/Very Good. First edition. [vi], 340 pp. Original green cloth lettered in gilt. Near Fine in Very Good unclipped dust jacket, well-rubbed and a little worn along edges, dampstain to verso of spine panel. A nice copy.
The feminist psychological novel that inspired the 1942 film by the same name starring Betty Davis as a spinster who becomes a libertine, directed by Irving Rapper. The author is also known for Stella Dallas. In her later years she was a mentor to Bell Jar author Sylvia Plath.
