About This Item

New York: Scribner’s, 1896. Eight volumes; “Author’s Edition.” While subsequent sets had more volumes, this one is inscribed on the half-title of the first volume, “To Dion Boucicault from his friend J.M. Barrie Christmas 1905.” Boucicault (Jr., or the younger) carried on in theatre where his father had been so successful. The younger Boucicault directed the first stage production of Peter Pan in 1904, which starred his sister Nina in the title role. Each of these volumes is bound in 3/4 morocco and cloth; top edge gilt; spines lettered in gilt, decorated with thistles and with “1896” at the foot of each spine; generally in very good condition but for one volume which is dampstained and has had newer, matching cloth replacing the original. The front board of each volume is stamped in facsimile cursive “Dion Boucicault’s Books” in gold.
