London, New York: Downey; J E Taylor. Near Fine with no dust jacket. 1897. Hardcover. Color Illustrations; xv, 287; 288-604 pages; One of Them which originally appeared in parts in 1860 and published in book form in 1861. This consists of 2 only volumes with original waterclours, hand colored plates, extra illustrated, very ornate tooled leather. The final set onsisted of 37 volumes. Green morocco leather faded to olive on spines. All gilt is bright, binding is quite striking. Inner covers are also full leather with green frames surrounding a red morocco blank [back and a tooled story related drawing 4.5 x 7.5". Volumes are 6 x 9. Double end papers consist of silk and also watercolor marbling. Binding by Becourt stamped in gilt inside front cover. Possibly this was done in collaboration with Zahnsdorf as Z bound editions in 1902 and 1911. Limited to 10 special copies of which this is the Publisher's proof copy especially prepared for D C Goodwin. No autographed letter so this is probably not the first volume. .
