About This Item

1722 Voyages in America 1ed Labat West Indies Illustrated MAPS Caribbean Cuba 5v

Jean-Baptiste Labat was a 17th-century Frenchman known for his eclectic interests including exploration. He composed a large portfolio of works, of which, his most famous concern America and his voyages. "Nouveau voyage aux isles de l'Amerique' was first published in 1722 and was instantly republished in different languages across Europe. It primarily deals with the West Indies and the Caribbean islands with numerous illustrations that Labat himself illustrated.

Many of these illustrations in this first edition are large folding maps; maps of the Caribbean Sea and individual islands such as Isle of Martinique. Other illustrations depict natives, architecture, tools, and scenery. Very impressive and highly desirable first edition!
