Viking, 1968. First Edition. Hardcover with Dust Jacket. FINE/FINE. SIGNED by Michael McClure and Allen Ginsberg, and signed and inscribed by James Broughton, 'For Stathis and Ralph / All Happiness.' Stathis and Ralph comprised the fine-press publishers Sylvester and Orphanos. Large 8vo, black cloth, purple and gilt stamped lettering, blue-gray topstain. Exceedingly clean and sharp, a cherry copy in like DJ, totally crisp and bright with price of $7.50 intact. 'A documentation and distillation of what is being written today by the alienated for the alienated,' Notes from the New Underground was an important mainstream publication drawn from underground newsletters and zines. It was marketed toward a gneral public curiious about the mindset of late 60's counter culture, offering a cross-section of Hippie Disafection represented by Berkeley Barb, Alan Watts, Gary Snyder, Timothy Leary, William Burroughs, as well as three entries on and by the Beatles.
