A collection of notes from conversations with Arthur Wellesley, the Duke of Wellington, who served twice as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. The conversations cover a variety of topics such as: the power of priests in Spain, Napoleon's march from Cannes, contagion and infection, education, the French Revolutionists, the Reform Bill, the importance of roads from a military point of view, privilege, and much more. Collected and written by Philip Henry, fifth Earl Stanhope, an English antiquarian and Tory politician best remembered for his historical writings. In the original red cloth binding. Externally, smart with light shelf wear and minor rubbing to the extremities. Fading to the spine and the odd small mark to the boards. Front hinge tender but firm. Front endpaper detached. Internally, generally firmly bound. Pages are bright with the odd spot. Contemporary ink inscription to the front endpaper. Good

Based in the literary city of Bath, our offices are housed in the Eastern Dispensary. Built in 1845, the building originally existed as a charitable institution providing medical care. The building now houses our collection of over twenty thousand books and has five full time members of staff.
