Scottish physician William Cullen (1710 1790) was one of the most important professors at the Edinburgh Medical School during its heyday as one of the world's leading centres of medical education. Cullen was also a successful author, publishing a number of medical textbooks. Although mostly for the use of his students, his books were popular throughout Europe and the American colonies as well. This Nosology, his first book-length publication, was originally published in 1769 under the Latin title Synopsis Nosologiae Methodicae and became very influential.
