About This Item

London: William Heinemann, 1954. Cloth. Very Good Indeed/Very Good Indeed. 8" by 5.5". Various. Described as 'half an adventure story and half a revelation', Kaare Rodahl's tale of his trip to the North Pole offers interesting insight into the natural and human life at the Pole. Kaare Rodahl took part in the Air Force's 'Project Icicle', which established an observational campy on a floating island of ice at the North Pole. This book is his account of the journey and experiences of the trip, including studies on the animals and plants, weather, and how humans can survive them. Kaare Rodahl was from Norway, who was studying medicine in Oslo before taking a winter break in Greenland and beginning collecting information and data on glaciers and polar bears. With sixteen plates of twenty six photographs, taken by members of the expedition. In the original publisher's cloth binding with the original price-clipped dustwrapper. Externally, smart. Light bumping to the head and tail of the spine. Light offsetting to the front and rear endpaper, and to the recto of the front endpaper and verso of the rear endpaper. Dustwrapper has minor edgewear, and a small mark to the front flyleaf. Light marking to the rear flyleaf. Discolouration to the spine. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and generally clean.
