New York: Harper & Brothers, 1931. First Edition. fair to good. 419, illus., fr bd weak, frontis partly separated, sm tear in title pg, lower corner rear bd worn, small tears at top & bot spine. Hideyo Noguchi (1876-1928) was a Japanese bacteriologist, a graduate of the Tokyo Medical College in 1897. He came to the U.S. in 1900 to work with Simon Flexner at the University of Pennsylvania, and in 1904 joined the Rockefeller Institute. His special researches were on snake venoms, vaccines against smallpox and yellow fever, and laboratory diagnosis of syphillis, Oroya fever, and trachoma. He died of yellow fever in Africa while working on that disease.
