About This Item
[BIBLIOGRAPHY] Todd, William B. THE NIXON TRANSCRIPTS. Austin: University of Texas, 1976. First edition. 8 1/2 x 11, triple-columns, 4pp. Fine copy of the separately printed off-print version of Todd's article in a UT publication about his bibliographic study of the transcripts of conversations President Richard Nixon had with his fellow Watergate conspirators. Todd was able to prove how many typists prepared the 1,308 pages of material (15 in all), and how many pages of material were deliberately altered or suppressed (271 pages!). The results of his landmark study, in which Todd applied the principles of eighteenth century bibliographical enquiry to a manuscript prepared with IBM Selectric typewriters, were damning and were used by Special Prosecutor Leon Jaworski as well as the Judiciary Committee in their impeachment investigations. Scarce.
