About This Item

New York & London: Garland Publishing, Inc, 1981. Five separate volumes, complete. Very Good-Fine condition. NO owner's name or bookplate. NO remainder mark. NOT library discards. NO underlining. NO highlighting. NO margin notes. All five volumes are First Editions. 1981-86. This catalogue of Robert Lee Wolff's unrivaled collection is an essential complement to Sadleir's XIX CENTURY FICTION. Full bibliographical descriptions and collations are provided as are voluminous notes on contents, bindings, variants, advertisements, authors, publishers and other useful details. Wolff attempted to acquire every English novel published between 1837 and 1901 as well as periodicals, annuals and yellow-backs. He also pursued books of travel, politics, verse, plays and other novels outside those dates if by the same authors. He succeeded to the extent that this catalogue contains more than four times the entries in Sadleir. Included are about 80% of Sadleir's titles, with something new to say about many of them. The set goes on to describe in detail six or seven thousand titles Sadleir did not have. Cross referenced to Sadleir and other standard authorities. Comprehensive index in the last volume. The five volumes are uniformly bound in the original gilt-stamped green cloth. Oversize Hardcover. 9" wide by 12.25" tall. About About Books

About Books (Genny and Michael Winne, proprietors, formerly of Parsippany, New Jersey) has been selling rare and OP books since 1985. Besides book fairs and mail-order catalogues, long-time collectors and dealers will remember our lengthy For Sale ads in the Antiquarian Bookman and similar magazines.
