About This Item

Boston: Roberts Brothers, 1875. First edition. By Sarah Chauncy Woolsey, written under the pseudonym "Susan Coolidge, which she also used for her "Katy Did" series (considered a precursor to the popular British girls' school stories that proliferated in the twentieth century). Nine stories with nursery-rhyme titles: "Goosey, Goosey Gander," "Little Bo-Peep," "One, Two, Buckle My Shoe," etc. Illustrated throughout at chapter headings, and with a full-page frontis drawing. Contemporaneous gift inscription on first blank, scattered stains, spine ends, hinges and corners showing wear, front endpaper repaired at hinge but still tender, black endpapers (or perhaps dark green?) showing a few scuffs. Altogether good.
