The second of three colorful works by Englishwoman Emmeline Lott, recounting her adventures during the two years she was employed in Egypt as the "Governess to His Highness the Grand Pacha, Ibrahim, son of His Highness Ismael Pacha, Viceroy of Egypt," a five-year-old heir who lived in a harem with his mother. "She found the whole episode utterly distasteful, and spends nearly two thousand delicious pages [in the three books] telling us so" - Robinson. Lott's three works all became bestsellers.
