About This Item

New York: Macmillan, 1961. First Printing. Hardcover. Very good/good. Cloth-backed boards in dust jacket, book very good, light offsetting to endpapers, mild discoloration to boards, jacket good with some edgewear, short tears, spine color a bit diminished. Inscribed "To Rosemary & John; who sometimes shed a somber, penetrating light on the human condition too. Tom." Recipient was John Alfred Taylor, a junior member of the faculty in the UNH English department alongside Williams. Taylor would become a well published poet and author of short stories in the gothic horror vein, and taught at Washington & Jefferson College in Washington PA. The author's third book. Williams would win the National Book Award for a later novel.
