London. 1971. 8vo, V, 157pp. Hardcover with blue cloth boards in very good condition with a black and silver price-clipped d/w in good condition with lightly chipped and worn edges and spine now protected by clear archival covering, text is in excellent condition as are the plates of b/w drawings . There is a tiny prior owner name on top of front paste-down. The night in question is August 6th 1945, the end of the day on which the world's first atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima. At this time the author was in a Japanese prison camp in Java and this bombing in Japan had a profound and direct influence on his fate and that of his co-prisoners. This is a vivid and moving rendition of an extraordinary story by a highly respected and experienced author.
