Drawn from the true story of Harry Powers, who was hanged in 1932 for the murder of two widows and three children, The Night of the Hunter tells the story of murderous ex-convict Harry Powell. The novel is set in the American South and has elements of Southern Gothic, it was a finalist for the 1955 National Book Award. The book was the basis for the 1955 film of the same name starring Robert Mitchum, it is considered one of the greatest films ever made. Stated First Edition with correct code. Bottom corners of book gently bumped. Bottom edges rubbed with some small spots of loss of cloth. Top corners gently rubbed. Bottom of spine very gently bumped. Dust Jacket is price clipped. Dust Jacket has some brown staining to edge of front flap, could be glue residue. Small 1/2 piece missing from the bottom edge of the DJ front cover. Top spine edge of DJ has a 1/2 inch tear.
