London: George Bell and Sons, 1890. First Edition. Hardcover. Very Good. 8vo., (viii), 250p., [2]p. ads. Original red cloth with gilt spine lettering. Board edges with light rubbing, one nick and break in the cloth at the top edge of rear board, spine ends bumped and lightly worn, spine sunned with some faint splashing, two small gouges to the rear board cloth. Page edges a little yellowed from age, but overall a good clean copy in a tight and square binding. Scarce author's first book, first edition. Essays on Diderot, Whitman, Heine, Tolstoi and Ibsen.
