Hardcovers Two volumes: 8" x 10 7/8", (Vol 1) Frontispiece of Shakespeare; lxxvii, (including Memoir of William Cullen Bryant by James Grant Wilson) 430 pp. (Vol 2): Frontispiece of Walter Scott; pp. 431-950. Illustrated with 20 steel [engraved] portraits, 20 wood engravings, 20 "ornamental titles in silhouette", 27 manuscript and autograph facsimiles. Dark brown cloth with titling & designs in gold and black on the spines and front covers, all edges gilt. Vol. 1 some separating of spine 1/3rd starting on the outside only. Corner bumps , edgewear. Plates VG+; only a hint of foxing.
